COVID-19 Information for Parents of Students
Governor Newsom, along with health and education experts, predict that students may not be able to return during the spring semester, putting strain on multiple systems and a stressor on parents and families.
As such, I wanted to reach out and share some resources that might help as you plan how to meet the challenges posed by the novel coronavirus, COVID-19.
In terms of seeing to your child’s educational needs, our local school districts are doing an amazing job compiling distance packets resources for your students:
- Bonita Unified School District
- Claremont Unified School District
- Monrovia Unified School District
- Pasadena Unified School District
- South Pasadena Unified School District
- Upland Unified School District
Additionally, the always dependable Public Broadcasting System (PBS) is putting together resources to help.
Further, the California Department of Education received a special waiver from the United States Department of Agriculture, (USDA) that enabled a site that had previously been approved to operate the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) or Seamless Summer Option (SSO), to provide meals to students during a coronavirus-related closure.
Locations for food aid are being populated into the “Meals for Kids” app, available for free download through Apple, Google, and Microsoft. For the most up-to-date information, families should still contact their local district for free and reduced-price meal availability.
