Assemblymember Chris Holden’s Statement on Governor’s Budget May Revise

For immediate release:

Sacramento, CA – Today, Governor Brown issued his May Budget Revision for maintaining California’s growing economy while preparing our state to lessen the impact of any potential global economic turmoil. Assemblymember Chris Holden released the following statement on the release of the May budget revision:

“California continues to have a prudent budget that strives to work for all Californians. The Governor has made clear that the rainy day fund is doing its job. This gives us the opportunity to make investments to fight poverty, improve early education, expand access to higher education, and create affordable housing, without impacting existing services or using one-time money for ongoing programs.

In the coming weeks I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Legislature to craft a responsible budget that builds a strong and prosperous California.

I also look forward to working with the Governor to fix California’s aging infrastructure while promoting transportation equity. Our aging roads and bridges cost average Californians hundreds of dollars in unnecessary vehicle maintenance each year and further contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. At the same we should use Cap & Trade dollars on targeted programs such as providing low cost or no cost transportation passes for students to create sustainable transportation behavior that also reduces greenhouse gas emissions.”
