Assemblymember Holden’s Young Legislators Program Concludes With Road Trip to Facebook and State Capitol
Pasadena, CA –Assemblymember Chis Holden’s (AD – 41) Young Legislators Program concluded with a road trip to Northern California that included visits to the Facebook headquarters and the State Capitol building. The trip marked the sixth and final session for the recent high schools graduates, all from the 41st Assembly District.
Day one, of the two-day road trip, involved a tour of the Facebook headquarters in Menlo Park followed by a panel discussion with members of Facebook’s government affairs team. Day two brought the students to the California State Capitol where they toured the building, met Assemblymember Holden and sat in on the Senate Education Committee hearing.
“I’m thrilled that our first annual Young Legislators Program for the 41st Assembly District was a great success” said Assemblymember Chris Holden. “I have no doubt this program will have a lasting impact on the students and I look forward to meeting next year’s bright students.”
The six-month long program provided the students an opportunity to learn about the legislative process, services provided to constituents by elected leaders, and the relationship between local and state governments. The twelve participating students were from Pasadena, Sierra Madre, Monrovia, San Dimas, and Claremont.
“The Young Legislators Program allowed me to experience state government, make useful connections, and discover new, interesting options for my future,” said Darcy Stone, 2016 Young Legislator and incoming freshman at the University California of Berkeley. “It was a wonderful program that I am very glad I got to be a part of.”
Earlier in the year, the students met five times in the district at locations including the University of La Verne, the Foothill Gold Line Maintenance and Operations campus, the Claremont Water Treatment Center, the California Institute of Technology, and the Rose Bowl. At these locations, they discussed issues such as education, transportation, the environment, and science and technology.
