Keeping Our Neighborhoods Safe from Hungry, Wandering Bears

(Monrovia, CA) – Assemblymember Chris Holden (D-Pasadena) met with dozens of residents from the Monrovia area at the local library to discuss public safety in the foothaills of the San Gabriel Mountains, which are magnets for wandering, hungry bears and how to bear proof your home and neighborhood. Assemblymember Holden and experts from law enforcement and the Department of Fish and Game explained that as drought conditions continue to make food scarce in the mountains, black bears weighing up to 500 pounds have been finding it hard to resist a free meal in fruit trees, garbage cans and pet bowls. As an example Assemblymember Holden talked about how a mother bear and her cub visited his office building looking for food. Learn more in this Assembly Access video.   http://www.asmdc.org/holden
