For immediate release:

Program aimed at cultivating the next generation of leaders

Pasadena, CA – Assemblymember Chris Holden (AD – 41) kicked off the second annual Young Legislators Program at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena with 18 participating high school students from the 41st Assembly District. The six-month long program will provide the students an opportunity to learn about the legislative process, services provided to constituents by elected leaders, and the relationship between local and state governments.

“I’m thrilled to launch the second annual Young Legislators Program for the 41st Assembly District,” said Assemblymember Holden. “We’ve put together another great six-month program that will have a lasting impact on the students and maybe even inspire them to run for office one day.”

Dan Schnur, who teaches courses in political communications and leadership at USC, spoke with the students on the role of the California State Government in their lives.

“Preparing these young men and women for the challenges of leadership is a critically important task, and I give Chris Holden all the credit in the world for creating such a valuable program,” said Schnur. “I’m excited about working with these young people and to helping them identify their own leadership goals.”

The students will meet four more times in the district at locations including the University of La Verne, the Foothill Gold Line Maintenance Operation and Transportation Office, the Three Valleys Municipal Water District water treatment plant in Claremont, and the California Institute of Technology. At these locations they will discuss issues such as education, transportation, the environment, and science and technology. The program will conclude in Sacramento with a tour of the State Capitol and an inside look at the legislative process.
