Sacramento, CA – For the 41st Assembly District’s 2017 “Nonprofit of the Year,” Assemblymember Chris Holden has chosen to honor Shoes That Fit, a nonprofit organization based in Claremont that provides athletic shoes to kids in need.
“It is my pleasure to recognize Shoes That Fit as the 41st Assembly District’s Nonprofit of the Year” said Assemblymember Holden (AD-41). “Through the simple gift of a new pair of shoes, this organization has changed the lives of thousands of students and helped empower them to reach their highest potential.”
Shoes That Fit is the largest national organization of its kind, helping approximately 100,000 children annually at almost 2,000 schools across the United States. Over 1.7 million pairs of new shoes and other necessities have been raised and distributed to date. By seeking to tackle one of the most visible signs of poverty, Shoes that Fit give children in need the confidence to play, learn, and thrive in school.
“More than 1 in 5 children in the United States live in poverty today, and California’s poverty rate is even higher. Together, we can alleviate the shame and embarrassment caused by circumstances out of a child’s control, all with a simple pair of shoes,” said Shoes that Fit Executive Director, Amy Fass. “It’s truly an honor to be recognized alongside other noteworthy organizations, and we look forward to the opportunity to reach our vision that one day, every child in America who needs new shoes, gets new shoes.”
