Local Organizations Receive Grants from AT&T California at Office of Assemblymember Chris Holden
Pasadena, CA – Pasadena based non-profits Shepherd’s Door, First Tee of Great Pasadena, Delta Foundation and Mentoring & Partnership for Youth Development (MPYD) received grants through AT&T California’s “Investing in California Awards” in a small ceremony at the District Office of Assemblymember Chris Holden.
“The organizations receiving awards today continue to make a powerful and positive impact in the 41st Assembly District,” said Assemblymember Chris Holden. “It is essential we continue to support them every way we can.”
The purpose of the “Investing in California Awards” program is to provide resources and recognition to organizations and programs that are improving lives in their communities and the state by advancing economic growth, educational opportunities or new technologies, or by providing other essential community services.
Shepherd's Door Domestic Violence Resource Center is a unique program that bridges the gap between victims in crisis and the domestic violence system that is designed to help victims. Their mission is to break the cycle of domestic violence in families through self-esteem empowerment, financial literacy, youth violence prevention education and direct rescue intervention to safety.
The First Tee of Greater Pasadena impacts the lives of young people in the Greater Pasadena area through educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf.
MPYD provides high school students with volunteer mentors, tutoring and exposure to motivational speakers during daily free lunch discussion groups. They also offer academic monitoring, a monthly pancake breakfast, summer residence camps and job placement assistance.
The Delta Foundation supports the public programs of the Pasadena Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. The Foundation provides academic awards every year and hosts the annual Young African American Women’s Conference.
