(Sacramento) -- The California Legislative Black Caucus, Assembly Speaker John A. Pérez (D-Los Angeles) and Assembly Democrats led a rally at the State Capitol to mark the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. The March on Washington is one of the largest rallies for human rights in United States history. It was organized by civil rights, labor and religious organizations, and had various musicians and civil rights leaders address the crowd in front of the Lincoln Memorial, including Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech. Assemblymember Holly Mitchell, Chair of the Legislative Black Caucus, noted that ".. the March was not a destination; it wasn't an end point but a process. That, yes 50 years later, we continue to have work to do." Speaker Pérez pointed out, while much progress has been made, there is much more to do before true freedom is enjoyed by all Americans.
