(PASADENA, CA) – On the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, Assemblymember John Harabedian, Chair of the California Armenian Legislative Caucus, issued the following statement in response to President Donald Trump’s continued refusal to recognize the genocide:
“As an Armenian American who is a direct descendant of the Armenian Genocide, I strongly condemn President Donald Trump’s refusal to recognize the 110th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. Trump’s dangerous disregard for truth and history is nothing new—but denying genocide is a moral failure of the highest order. The Armenian Genocide did happen, and we must call it a genocide if we are to honor the 1.5 million lives lost at the hands of the Ottoman Empire and reaffirm our collective commitment to stand against future genocides,” said Assemblymember John Harabedian.
Harabedian, whose family history is deeply tied to the Armenian Genocide, emphasized the importance of truth-telling and moral leadership in preserving historical memory and preventing future atrocities.
