(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Today, Assemblymember John Harabedian (D-Pasadena) successfully passed AB 239, the State-led Disaster Housing Task Force, off the Assembly Floor, sending this critical wildfire recovery bill to the Governor’s desk.
“Thousands of families have lost their homes, and the need for a unified, efficient recovery effort is urgent,” said Assemblymember Harabedian (D-Pasadena). “AB 239 creates a centralized task force to cut through bureaucratic delays and ensures that resources are delivered swiftly to those who need them most.”
AB 239 will:
- Establish a State-Led Disaster Housing Task Force: Convened by the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HDC), the task force will coordinate and streamline efforts between HCD, the Office of Emergency Services (OES), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and local governments to rebuild housing in communities impacted by the wildfires.
- Appoint a State Disaster Housing Coordinator: This coordinator will oversee the delivery of resources, including funding and technical assistance, to communities impacted by the wildfires.
- Require Annual Legislative Reports: The task force will report to the Legislature on the status of rebuilding housing in communities impacted by the wildfires, starting on April 1, 2026.
AB 239 will receive the Governor’s decision to sign or veto the bill by October 12th at the latest.
