Holden Bill (AB 288) to Provide College-Bound Opportunity for High School Students is on its Way to Governor

Sacramento – Assembly Majority Leader Chris Holden’s measure to promote a college-going culture for underserved high school students today cleared its final legislative hurdle and is now headed for the Governor’s desk.

AB 288-Concurrent Enrollment promises expanded offerings for high school students, allowing them to take more college courses, and be introduced to college-level coursework both on a high school campus and at a community college.

Bill Extends Statute of Limitations on Human Trafficking
Sacramento – Assembly Majority Leader Holden’s bill to ensure justice for victims of human rights abuses moved a step closer to reality today. The Senate voted unanimously in support of Holden’s AB 15 to extend the statute of limitations for human trafficking and other abuse cases to ten years. Currently, California has a two-year statute of limitations, which is often too short to gather evidence to ensure victims get a fair trial.

Senate Approves Holden’s Landmark Bill To Give Small Business Franchise Owners A Better Deal

Sacramento – Legislation by Assembly Majority Leader Chris Holden (D-Pasadena) to keep small business franchise owners from being put out of business without good reason passed out of the Senate today on a vote of 34 to 0. AB 525 is jointly authored with Assembly Speaker Toni Atkins, Assemblymembers Bill Dodd (D-Napa) and Scott Wilk (R-Santa Clarita).

Historic Agreement Reached on AB 525 “Franchise Bill of Rights”

Sacramento: Assembly Majority Leader Chris Holden and Assembly Speaker Toni Atkins announce a landmark deal between the Assembly Democrats, Coalition of Franchisee Associations, SEIU, and the International Franchise Association to develop a Franchisee Bill of Rights to provide more protection to franchise operators who fear losing their businesses to powerful franchise corporations. This deal marks the first of its kind that the International Franchise Association has agreed to.
