The bills – AB 288 Concurrent Enrollment and AB 252 Advanced Placement - S.T.E.M. now move to the Assembly floor for a vote next week.

Assembly Majority Leader Holden’s AB 1378 to Expand Property Tax Relief for California Seniors

Bill would allow older taxpayers to downsize their property without tax penalty
Sacramento – Assemblymember Chris Holden’s AB 1378 to provide property tax relief for California seniors has been approved in Assembly Business & Professions Committee. The measure would expand eligibility for when seniors sell or downsize by allowing both spouses to retain their own separate tax claims for transfer of a principal residence.

Assembly Majority Leader Holden's Bill to Ensure Victims of Human Rights Abuses Get Their Day in Court Moves on to Senate (AB 15)

Sacramento - Assemblymember Chris Holden's (D-Pasadena) bill to expand the time limit for filing human rights claims from two to ten years in cases of torture, war crimes, genocide and human trafficking was unanimously approved in the Assembly Thursday. AB 15 extends the statute of limitations to bring California law into line with federal law.

ASSEMBLY MAJORITY LEADER HOLDEN REACTS TO GOVERNOR’S MAY REVISE BUDGET

Sacramento – Assemblymember Chris Holden (D-Pasadena) released the following statement on Governor Brown’s revised budget plan:

“As California’s economic outlook continues to improve, Governor Brown’s revised budget recognizes the need to provide additional funding for public education and California’s low-income wage earners. 

Assemblymember Holden’s “Franchise Bill of Rights” Scores Big Win in California Assembly Vote (AB 525)

Sacramento – Franchisees in California are one step closer to being treated as the small business owners that they are, and not employees, now that Assemblymember Chris Holden’s bill, AB 525, has passed off the Assembly Floor with a bipartisan vote of 54 to 10. The measure, jointly authored with Assembly Speaker Toni Atkins, Assemblymembers Bill Dodd (D-Napa) and Scott Wilk (R-Santa Clarita), now goes to the Senate. 

AB 525 would provide franchisee small business owners a greater level of protection from having their franchise contract arbitrarily terminated by adopting a “substantial compliance” standard for termination. This standard says franchise owners are making an honest effort to comply with the contract

Holden’s Bill to Certify Music Therapists Passes CA Assembly

AB 1279 - Music Therapy Changing Lives

Sacramento –   Assemblymember Chris Holden’s Music Therapy bill to provide formal recognition to music therapists has been approved in the state Assembly and now goes to the Senate for consideration.

“Music therapy has many benefits for every age from babies to adults,” said Assemblymember Holden. “It can help ill patients recover faster, soothe anxiety, and ease depression. For children with learning and behavioral disorders, it is especially effective. There are several studies to back up the notion that music really is universal.”
