Program aimed at cultivating the next generation of leaders
Pasadena, CA – Pasadena, CA – Assembly Majority Floor Leader Chris Holden kicked off the Young Legislators Program at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena with twelve participating high school students from the 41st Assembly District. The six-month long program will provide the students an opportunity to learn about the legislative process, services provided to constituents by elected leaders, and the relationship between local and state governments. The twelve students participating are from Pasadena, Sierra Madre, Monrovia, San Dimas, and Claremont.
“I’m thrilled to launch the first annual Young Legislators Program for the 41st Assembly District,” said Assembly Majority Floor Leader Chris Holden. “We’ve put together a program that I hope will have lasting impact on the students and maybe even inspire them to run for office one day.”
“On every issue that impacts the opportunities of young people, including jobs, housing, and education, government will play a critical role,” said guest speaker Dr. Raphael Sonenshein, Executive Director at the Pat Brown Institute for Public Affairs. We know that those who understand the political process are more likely to participate, and those who participate will determine what happens.”
The students will meet four more times in the district at locations including the University of La Verne, the Foothill Gold Line Maintenance Operation and Transportation Office, the Claremont Water Treatment Center, and the California Institute of Technology. At these locations they will discuss issues such as education, transportation, the environment, and science and technology. The program will conclude in Sacramento with a tour of the State Capitol and an inside look at the legislative process.
