Los Angeles, CA – In a private ceremony in the Vin Scully Press Box at Dodger Stadium, Assemblymembers Chris Holden (AD – 41) and Jimmy Gomez (AD – 51) presented Assembly Concurrent Resolution 195 to Vincent “Vin” Scully, recognizing his exceptional 67 year-long career with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
“Vin Scully is a Los Angeles treasure,” said Assemblymember Chris Holden. “We have been blessed to have Mr. Scully narrate the game of baseball for so many decades.”
Scully served 67 seasons with the Dodgers, making him the longest tenured broadcaster for a single team in professional sports history. He is known for his smooth voice, lyrically descriptive and poetic style, and his ability to weave historic anecdotes between his play by-play of the ballgame. His signature introduction to Dodger games, "It's time for Dodger baseball!” is beloved by Dodger fans across California.
“I grew up listening and seeing the Dodger games through Vinny’s play-by-play calls on the radio,” said Assemblymember Jimmy Gomez. “For Angelenos, Vin Scully is the institution of baseball.”
Scully enjoys a long list of achievements including the 1982 Broadcaster’s Wing of the National Baseball Hall of Fame inductee and Ford C. Frick Award recipient. In 2014, he was the Commissioner's Historic Achievement Award Recipient – the 14th recipient and second non-player to receive the award. He has been named California’s sportscaster of the year 32 times. He was also named Grand Marshal for the 2014 Tournament of Roses Parade.
“He is a legend beyond sports and for the district I represent, he is a living connection to Pasadena’s own Jackie Robinson,” said Holden. “This resolution is just a small token of our appreciation.”
