Assemblymember Holden to Host COVID-19 Vaccine Town Hall

The town hall will be an excellent opportunity to learn more about the vaccine and get clarity on misconceptions.

Pasadena, CA – Assemblymember Holden will host on Facebook Live, a COVID-19 Vaccine Town Hall on Wednesday, March 10, 6-7p.m.  Expert panelists will answer questions about the vaccine, the timelines, the impact on schools, and our ability to get back to normal.

The town hall will be an excellent opportunity to learn more about the vaccine and get clarity on misconceptions.

Timothy F. Brewer, MD, MPH is Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology at the University of California, Los Angeles. Trained as an infectious disease physician and epidemiologist, Dr. Brewer has published extensively on optimizing the prevention and control of infectious diseases in populations while also maintaining a hospital-based infectious disease practice. His research interests focus on the prevention and control of multiple drug-resistant tuberculosis, global risk factors for emerging diseases, and the improvement of worldwide outbreak surveillance programs. He has served on advisory boards and/or review panels for the World Health Organization, the National Institutes of Health, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention among others.

Dr. Brewer previously was the Vice Provost, Interdisciplinary and Cross Campus Affairs at UCLA where he worked with faculty, students, the Academic Senate and senior campus administrators to establish strategic initiatives that bridge departments and Schools across the Campus, facilitating collaborations that focus the Campus' diverse expertise on society's most pressing challenges. Other leadership responsibilities include serving as the Director of Global Health Programs at McGill Medical School where he led national efforts to develop global health competencies for Canadian medical schools. As the founding Program Director for the International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID), he established training and capacity-building programs that have reached thousands of physicians and researchers in countries around the world. While at ISID Dr. Brewer also led the acquisition, oversight, and expansion of ProMED-mail by the Society; ProMED-mail has grown to become one of the largest publicly available outbreak reporting systems globally, and played critical roles in alerting public health officials and healthcare workers to both the SARS and COVID-19 outbreaks. Dr. Brewer is the past Chair of the Board of Directors for the Consortium of Universities for Global Health and of the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada Resource Group on Global Health.

Ying-Ying Goh, MD, MSHS, is the Director and Health Officer of the City of Pasadena Public Health Department and a board-certified pediatrician. She previously served in various roles at the Health Department, including Health Officer and Deputy Director, and Medical Director for Programs and Research, securing grant funding and managing programs addressing chronic disease, including improving health outcomes for seniors with diabetes and also childhood obesity prevention. Her professional experience includes clinical pediatric practice; management of a California Endowment task force to improve healthcare access and quality in Los Angeles County; and community-based participatory research to improve nutrition and physical activity for youth.

Dr. Goh earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Policy at Stanford University, a Doctor of Medicine Degree at the Stanford University School of Medicine, and a Master of Health Services Research Degree from the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. She completed pediatric residency training at Children’s Hospital Boston/Harvard University and Boston Medical Center/Boston University.

Susan Chaides, MEd, BSN, RN, CPNP is a Project Director in the Division of Student Support Services at the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE). Ms. Chaides was the 2018 California School Nurses Organization – School Nurse Administrator of the Year and is a Fellow of the Johnson & Johnson School Health Leadership Program. She has worked as a school nurse, health educator, health services coordinator, alternative education principal, and school health consultant. Currently, Ms. Chaides manages the Community Health and Safe Schools Unit at LACOE where she provides professional development and consultation to schools, community agencies, and parents. She oversees, develops and delivers trainings in the areas of school health, mental health, school safety, emergency preparedness, and Section 504. She serves on the California School Nurses Organization State Board and on the National Association of School Nurses Board of Directors. Currently, Ms. Chaides works on the LACOE COVID-19 Team and is the liaison working with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
