Assemblymember Chris Holden’s Resolution Recognizing Direct Support Professionals Serving Californians with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities During the COVID-19 Passes Assembly Floor

For immediate release:

Sacramento, CA – Today, Assemblymember Chris Holden’s Resolution, ACR 41, recognizing direct support professionals serving Californians with intellectual and developmental disabilities during the COVID-19 Pandemic passed the Assembly Floor.

“During this Pandemic, direct support professionals throughout the state made extraordinary sacrifices and dedicated themselves to prioritize the health and safety of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are highly vulnerable to infection,” said Assemblymember Chris Holden. “Today’s resolution is a modest action to recognize and honor their dedication and sacrifice.”

There are more than 350,000 Californians with intellectual and developmental disabilities. As the lives of the people they serve have been disrupted, there are countless examples of how Direct Support Professionals have innovated, adapted and made heroic personal sacrifices to ease the difficulties faced by the people they serve.  During the COVID-19 Pandemic many have become sick or have isolated away from their own family and friends in order to be there and make life more bearable for the people they serve.

“I hope ACR-41 serves as a reminder that these direct professionals deserve to be compensated for their professionalism and level of dedication,” said Holden.
