Sacramento, CA – Today, the California Legislature passed the 2021-2022 State Budget. Assemblymember Chris Holden released the following statement:
“This time last year, we feared the Pandemic would destroy our economy and leave the state in a deep hole. Thankfully, we are in a much better position than we ever thought given the circumstances. We are making robust investments for priority issues including our economic recovery, education, and homelessness while contributing at a record level to our reserves.
Even though the outlook for beating the virus is in sight, we know families continue to struggle in this Pandemic. That is why we approved the Governor’s proposed Golden State Stimulus 2 to provide $8.1 billion in tax cuts to Californians with income of up to $75,000. For education, we are investing $21,000 per-student, TK-12, to help transform or education system. To address homelessness, we are providing $8.5 in new funding to homeless programs over the next two years.
I am also pleased to see that my legislation which would have created a State School Nurse Consultant within the Department of Education was incorporated into the Budget. I am also thrilled to see $857 million to fund the provider increases from the Rate Study over the next three years to improve the lives of those living with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
