Assemblymember Chris Holden Responds to Governor’s State of the State

Sacramento, CA – Today, Governor Gavin Newsom presented the State of the State for 2022. Assemblymember Chris Holden (AD – 41) issued the following statement:

“Governor Newsom outlined his vision for maintaining California’s growing economy while simultaneously lessening the impact of any potential global economic turmoil. I commend the Governor’s innovation and leadership in developing a comprehensive plan to help Californians access transit throughout the State. For example, the pilot program to reconnect communities will improve equity and remove transportation barriers by investing in the conversion of key underutilized highways into multi-modal corridors that serve existing residents by developing affordable housing and complete streets features in disadvantaged communities. Next, the Southern California local and regional projects will enhance mobility and reduce greenhouse gases which is something I am passionate about.

He also mentioned what makes California different and how we, as a state lead the nation to continued advancement in the 21st century. By providing students with free transit passes, we ensure accessibility and opportunities for success irrespective of zip codes, that is why my bill AB 1919 is critical. Lastly, by way of example, I look forward to his support on my Gold Line proposal as I believe that extending the Gold Line will provide enhancement of quality of life and ridership throughout California’s urban communities. Giving people a way to and from work and other daily life obligations, allows them to focus on issues that matter such as sustainability, housing, education, and family. It is vital that we provide solutions that work for people and allows them to thrive. I applaud the Governor’s response to making sure our communities are accessible and equitable with the commitment to build sustainable transit infrastructure and increasing opportunities for students of all ages. The Governor has provided the Legislature a strong plan of action for 2022, and I look forward to continuing our progress in building a strong and prosperous California.”
