Sierra Madre, CA – Assemblymember Chris Holden was welcomed by The Friends of the Sierra Madre Library, Sierra Madre Public Library Board of Trustees, and City Council of Sierra Madre in a reception to celebrate the State Budget allocation for the infrastructural improvements of the Sierra Madre Public Library.

In 2019, Sierra Madre Public Library (SMPL) was selected as a partner in the California Revealed project. California Revealed is a state funded initiative to help California’s public libraries, in partnership with other local heritage groups, to digitize, preserve, and serve online historically significant California.

“When I received the news that the Governor had seen the community impact of the Sierra Madre Library, I was overjoyed,” said Assemblymember Chris Holden. “During the shutdown we weren’t able to visit community spaces such as our libraries. It was nice to see adults, children and families when I toured the library and saw the need for improvements in real time this week.”

“It’s a new day in Sierra Madre. The $10 million grant from the state is a true game-changer. Thanks to the hard work of Assemblymember Holden, we will soon have a state-of-the-art community library that will impact the lives of our residents for decades to come,” said Mayor Gene Goss of Sierra Madre.

On June 30th, the Legislature and Governor Newsom approved $10 million for the Sierra Madre Public Library for their infrastructural improvements and ADA compliance.

“In life we want to know that we did something – we gave our life to something, and peoples’ lives changed as a direct result. What Assemblymember Holden has done is just that, this grant to the Sierra Madre Library will change the lives of many, tens and thousands of people calling this library home,” said Rich Proctor, Sierra Madre Library Board Trustee.

“This would not have been possible without the advocacy and work of the community including the Friends of the Sierra Madre Library,” said Holden.

The purpose of the Friends of the Sierra Madre Library is to promote community awareness of, support for, and utilization of the high quality programs, services, and facilities of the Sierra Madre Public Library as a lifelong center for learning.
