Pasadena, CA – This week, the U.S. Resiliency Council hosted a press conference alongside Biden Administration (SBA) Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman to highlight their Partnership Agreement for the inaugural launch of the Resilience Advantage webinar and seminar of educational programs to help businesses increase seismic resiliency.
“Now and through the last few years, more and more independent contractors and other hybrid workers are working from home. With this inaugural partnership for seismic retrofitting of soft story buildings, we are not only helping with safety at home but safety of small business owners,” said Assemblymember Chris Holden.
“Congratulations to the U.S. Resiliency Council and the U.S. Small Business Administration on this essential partnership. When working with the U.S.R.C. to obtain funding to retrofit soft story multifamily housing in California, their commitment to protecting our communities was apparent. I am excited to see them continue making strides through this partnership,” stated Assemblymember Rodriguez.
During the 2021-22 legislative session, Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez and Assemblymember Chris partnered with the USRC to allocate $250 million to establish and implement the Seismic Retrofitting Program for Soft Story Multifamily Housing. This funding was allocated in the 2023-24 General Fund of the Budget Act and will ensure the safety of our communities most vulnerable to disaster in an earthquake.
