Sacramento, CA – Today, Assemblymember Chris Holden welcomed the delegation from Punjab, Pakistan in celebration of ACR 104 Punjab, Pakistan: sister state relationship. The delegation will be recognized on the California State Assembly Floor on Monday, January 9th.
Punjab is Pakistan’s most populous province, with a population of about 110,000,000. It’s Capital, Lahore, is a cultural, historical, economic, and cosmopolitan center of Pakistan where the country’s cinema industry and much of its fashion industry are based. Agriculture continues to be the largest sector of Punjab’s economy, and is the breadbasket of the country, similar to California.
“A sister state relationship between California and the Punjab, Pakistan will promote trade, commerce, peace and increase the potential for educational, environmental, and cultural relations,” said Assemblymember Chris Holden. “These exchanges will have a positive impact for both regions, and I am honored to usher this initiative forward.”
“Sister province relationship between Punjab and California will further strengthen friendly ties between Pakistan and the United States. This will also help in fostering economic, trade and technological linkages between the two provinces. Most importantly, this is a momentous stride towards people- centered diplomacy,” said Masood Khan, United States Ambassador to Pakistan.
“So thrilled, proud and fortunate to be integral part of this historic California/Punjab sister state partnership to elate millions of lives in Punjab and California,” said Dr. Asif Mahmood.
