Assemblymember Holden Applauds Honoring War Dead from Vietnam Era

Sacramento - Earlier this year, Assemblymember Chris Holden (D-Pasadena) worked with Veteran's groups to author AJR 33 - a resolution that urges the U.S. Department of Defense to include the names of the 74 fallen sailors of the Destroyer U.S.S. Frank E. Evans (21 of whom are from California) on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

Legislation to increase diversity in Community College Leadership Signed into Law (AB 1557)

SACRAMENTO – Governor Brown has signed a measure authored by Assemblymember Chris Holden (D-Pasadena) that would specify that the members of the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges need to be inclusive and representative of the many demographic groups found in California and reflect the diversity of race, gender, disabled persons, and veterans.

“By requiring diversity to be taken into account when appointing board members, Assembly Bill 1557 ensures that the Board will bring the perspective, real life experiences and insight of the broadest cross-section of residents of California,” explained Assemblymember Holden.

This bill has broad support from student organizations, several community colleges, veterans’ organizations and local chambers of commerce.

AB 1672 – Truancy Prevention: School Attendance Review Boards

Sacramento – The California Legislature has given final approval to Assemblymember Chris Holden’s legislation to collect more complete records on absences and intervention strategies to help identify the effectiveness of school truancy programs.

AB 1672 is part of a package of measures sponsored by the Attorney General to address chronic truancy and now goes to Governor Brown for signature.

The measure enjoyed overwhelming, bi-partisan support as it made its way through the legislative process this year.

Assembly Passes Bill to Fight Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is the world’s fastest growing criminal enterprise with victims as young as 13 being forced into prostitution.
Sacramento – The California Assembly today overwhelmingly approved Senate Bill 955 to aid in stopping the sex trade in young women and men by allowing law enforcement to seek a court-ordered wiretap when human trafficking is suspected.

Holden’s Kitchen Grease Theft Bill Approved By Legislature

AB 1566 Goes to Governor
Sacramento – The California State Legislature has overwhelmingly approved Assemblymember Chris Holden’s bill to strengthen laws against stealing used cooking oil. The Assembly gave final approval to Holden’s AB 1566 which increases penalties for stealing grease and beefs up law enforcement’s efforts to stop modern-day-rustlers. The vote was - 70 to 0.
